The City of Jackson, the Juneteenth Jackson Foundation, & 97.7 WRBJ-FM present A celebration of culture. Music, food, tradition. Families gather to celebrate the day that slaves got the news that they were free on June 19th 1865.

Here in the Jackson, the Capital of Mississippi, we will gather in Battlefield Park to Sing, Dance, and Fellowship in homage to our ancestors and forefathers!

Official Press Release The City of Jackson, in conjunction with the Juneteeth Jackson Foundation, WRBJ 97.7, and Jackson Black Pages, presents Juneteenth Jackson 2015, set for Saturday, June 20 at Battlefield Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day”, or “Emancipation Day”, is a holiday recognized in many southern states in the U.S. It commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas in June 1865, and more generally the emancipation of African-American slaves throughout the Confederate South. The Juneteenth event will feature history presentations, music, dance, and spoken word. There will be live performances from several Jackson artists, food vendors, and activities for children.
